12 Dance - Move It!

12DAN
Course Description Recommended Prior Learning

Completing Year 11 Performing Arts Dance Standards would be helpful. However, if you have ever done dance elsewhere, or just love to move, create and like working with others who love to dance, and put in the mahi, then you will achieve success! Please see the Dance teacher if you have any questions!

Welcome to NCEA Level 2 Dance! This course offers a dynamic and engaging exploration of dance, allowing you to deepen your understanding of movement, choreography, and performance. Building on the foundations from Level 1, you'll further develop your technical skills and creativity, while also learning to analyse and appreciate dance as an art form.

Throughout the year, you'll participate in a variety of mostly practical activities, including:

  • Dance Performance: Sharpen your performance skills by learning and presenting choreographed works.

  • Choreography: Explore your creative potential by devising your own original dances, either solo or in groups.

Live Performances and Leadership Opportunities:

Showquest is Senior Dance students devised and run. Don't panic, your dance teacher will also help you oversee the required paperwork, timelines, LED wall and lighting designing etc. There are several opportunities for Seniors to be student leaders and/or choreographers or designers, for the 10 minute Showquest performance!
