Course Description
Welcome to NCEA Level 1 Drama and Dance, where you'll embark on a journey to explore the dynamic world of the Performing Arts. This course is designed to develop your skills in acting, movement, creativity, and critical thinking, providing you with a strong foundation in the essential elements of both drama and dance.
In Drama, you will delve into the art of performance, exploring various styles, techniques, and genres. You'll create original works, analyse scripts, and bring characters to life on stage. Through mostly practical (with a little research about your character, time and place), you'll gain insight into the processes of creating, performing, and reflecting on your own and others' work.
In Dance, you'll explore the expressive power of movement. You'll learn different dance techniques, develop choreographic skills, and perform in a range of styles. The course emphasises creativity, collaboration, and the ability to convey ideas and emotions through movement.

Assessment:
Your work will be assessed through practical performances, written google slides assignments, and reflections. Assessments will cover Internal and External Achievement Standards, which contribute towards your NCEA Level 1 qualification.
This course will not only prepare you for further study in Drama, Dance, and Performing Arts at higher levels, but it will also equip you with life skills that are applicable in a variety of professional environments. Recommended Prior Learning
It would be great if you have completed the Year 10 Drama option, or have previously performed in plays at school, or been at a dance school.
However if you have a passion for drama and/or dance and have a can-do-attitude, like to have fun being creative, that's all you need to succeed! Talk to the Dance/Drama teacher if you have any questions!
