13 DANCE Move It!

Course Description

SUBJECT: Dance        13DAN

COURSE NAME: Move it!

Course Outline:

Welcome to NCEA Level 3 Dance, where you'll take your love for movement to the next level. This course is all about exploring and pushing the boundaries of dance. You’ll dive into different dance styles, hone your choreography skills, and refine your performance abilities. Along the way, you’ll also gain a deeper understanding of how dance connects with culture, history, and society.

What You'll Do:

  • Choreography: Create your own dance pieces that express your ideas and emotions in unique ways.

  • Performance: Work on your technique and stage presence across various dance genres, learning how to communicate through movement.

  • Dance Analysis: Watch and critique professional dance works, exploring what makes them tick and how they achieve their impact.

  • Dance Perspectives: Look at how dance fits into the bigger picture – its cultural significance, and how it's evolved over time.

Assessment:  Your progress will be videoed and measured through moderation with another Dance teacher for your internal assessments. These are performance based with short written reflections.

Live Performance and Leadership Opportunities:

Showquest is Senior Dance students devised and run. Don't panic, your dance teacher will also help you oversee the required paperwork, timelines, LED wall and lighting designing etc. There are several opportunities for seniors to be student leaders and/or choreographers or designers, for the 10 minute Showquest performance!
